Quarter Acre seeks an immigration policy that provides migrants that contribute to our country. Historically many politicians have relied on an annual influx of 70,000 people to increase nominal GDP.
This has not boosted real GDP or local wages as there has been tax increases to pay for increased infrastructure, health and superannuation costs. In addition many cheap workers from overseas drives down New Zealand wages.
We therefore favour young, highly skilled migrants who must reside here for 35 years before receiving superannuation. In addition we believe better education will encourage New Zealanders to undertake work in the agricultural, hospitality, aged care and construction sectors.
